I am one of those people who will not tick a box saying "I agree to your terms and conditions" without actually going and scanning through them... well, usually anyway.
This afternoon I finally got round to signing up to the local public library. It is all done online and then I just have to present myself with some identification at a branch within the next 14 days to begin borrowing. Marvellous!
Anyway, I duly read both the library byelaws and the other document. Dating from 30-40 years ago, they make hilarious reading. I am going to have to be particularly careful regarding any gramophone records I borrow. Anyway, here are a couple that made me chuckle:
They have obviously seen my sort before, but at least I get a warning:
A person shall not, after a warning by a library officer, persist in sleeping in the library.
Note to self... must shower before going to the library:
A person who is offensively unclean in person or in dress, or who is suffering from an offensive
disease, shall not enter or use the library.
Now how does this one update?
Except with the consent of a library officer, a person shall not make a tracing of any portion of a
book.
I remember being ordered to do tracing practice when others in my class at school were doing reading practice. I guess scanning and taking pictures of books might be covered by this.
