Prayer is better than sleep?

Sleep has been occupying my mind lately. I went out on Friday and caught up with loads of old friends, but a post-pub invite for port o'clock meant that I didn't get home until 3.30am. The repercussions of this became evident on Monday evening when I looked across the room at Mr Farli and he was all fuzzy.

Tuesday I woke up with a really nasty migraine, the only cure for which is to sleep until I stop being sick. Tuesday evening, I went to bed at eleven as usual and was still awake at 2am. The Muslim call to prayer was on my mind. I forget most of it, but the bit I do remember is that 'prayer is better than sleep'. Now usually I would dispute this wholeheartedly - I love sleeping - but today I thought I might as well try it.

I didn't have much confidence in getting up at 2am, knowing that I would have to get up again four and a bit hours later. I figured that I would probably be knackered all day today and not function, so I was quite stern and told God that he had better give me the energy to get through the day with only 4 hours sleep if he wanted me praying at that time of the morning. He has. I even got to college 20 minutes earlier than usual.

Reading back, this sounds like I am bragging. I don't mean it to - the reason this has shocked me is that it is so completely out of the ordinary.

Bear with me, I am sure that the usual rubbish will continue shortly.
