First of all, I would like to say a big thank you to all those people who humoured me and tried to guess what I was working on. I don't think I have ever provoked so many comments before. Anyway, here is the finished item:

wooden prayer stool

None the wiser? Well, when kneeling down to pray* it goes under your bum and over your feet. The seat slopes down towards your knees. This means that, not only do your knees not hurt, your feet do not get pins and needles. I first came across these stools at Taize and was surprised how comfortable it was. Someone lovely at college gave me the dimensions and so this project came into being.

My next project is to make a lightweight, waterproof, portable one for use at Greenbelt, a.k.a. Pins and Needles Central.

After that, if I am so inclined, I will start work on the other projects that your comments suggested:

Dave, I am still a little unclear about the whole font in my study thing. Just how big are vicars' studies? Would it really be less trouble to have a whole Christening party in the study than to wander over to the church for it.

Jack, Rosamundi and Bimble, you clearly have far too high a regard for my woodworking errm.. skills, for want of a better word.

Yay, Daisy, Rain and Dith: Much more sensible, well done. Do I need a chopping board mounted on the wall? There is a question.

* This would be the major part of my future job that needs making more comfortable
