On Tuesdays at the moment, I suffer (and therefore those around me suffer as well) from post-lecture tension. The last few weeks, I have come home in an absolute rage, just generally and with no real justification. It comes from having 7 lectures in one day.
Today, I have an irrational hatred of nodding. I have sounded off about it to two people already and the rage is still there, so I share it with you too so I can go about maintaining my busy social life later without boring everyone there by raging about nodding.
1) Nodding is a legitimate way of expressing your agreement with something someone says
1a) as is saying 'Yes'
2) Lecturers often say things which I and my fellow students agree with.
3) IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO NOD OR VOICE AGREEMENT AFTER EVERY SENTENCE OF A LECTURE
4) PARTICULARLY NOT IF YOU ARE SITTING WITHIN MY PERIPHERAL VISION
5) AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH
6) Our natural instinct as humans is to mirror body language.
7) I KEEP FINDING MYSELF NODDING ALONG TO THINGS TOO.
8) HELP!
That feels better. I apologise for any offence that may have been caused. It is probably safe to nod in my presence on any other day of the week, but if you do it on Tuesday afternoon or evening I cannot be held responsible for the consequences.
