Having a good day

The all-age service I led this morning seemed to go well - the adults enjoyed it anyway, but I didn't get feedback from any kids. They all rushed off to get their hot cross buns and go and play. It just sort of crept up on me that it was the first all-age thing I had done and I've been too busy to get worried about it.

It is a really beautiful day today and I am in the garden again, taking a bit of a break and catching up on some non-compulsory reading for a change. The tree at the end of the garden is still covered in blue flowers and the leaves are coming out on all the other deciduous items. Spring is really here, my favourite time. Let's hope hayfever season is kind to me this year and I can carry on sitting here for a while longer.

Mr F sees it as his mission to fill in the gaps in my ministerial formation. Now I am not a gardener: I kill plants with disturbing reliability and was sacked as plant-watering monitor at school for unintentionally drowning 80 plants. Mr F points out that many vicarages come with gardens and I really should get to grips with it. This week, as a first step, we went to a garden centre and actually looked at the plants before heading to the tearoom for a piece of cake. I decided to buy a garlic plant.

The next lesson was what to do with it when it got home: I have planted it and watered it. Time will tell what will happen to it. I also discovered a slug trap from last year that we forgot to empty - it was really quite horrible.

Hmm.. the peace and tranquility of the garden has been shattered not only by a lawnmower, but also by a shrieking car alarm. That, I suppose, is what you get for living in a city.
