The deep end

It has struck me this week how much of my ministerial training is just being chucked in at the deep end and left to get on with it. I've decided to try and stop getting too bothered by it.

You want me to entertain 60 kids for half an hour? Sure, no problem. Have I done it before? Well, no, but we'll see how it goes. (It is actually going OK).

You want me to take an all-age service? Sure, no problem. Have I done it before? Well, no, but I'm sure it will be fine. (It was, as I have already mentioned).

My next one and the challenge for this week is:

You want me to preach a sermon before I have had any training in preaching/homiletics? Um... OK... I'll think about it. Great, we'll put you on the rota.

Now I have done some preaching before, but only about 4 times and not when I was labelled as an ordinand.

Things I need to remember when getting stressed about it:
I am not fully trained so it is OK to make mistakes.
I am human so it is OK to make mistakes.
There are lots of nice Christian people about who think it is OK to make mistakes.
Praying will probably help.
