I spent most of yesterday evening in front of the tv with my greek vocab for company. Mastermind and University Challenge were on, both of which I love and even occasionally get questions right. I left the tv on and ended up watching the latest Nigella show: Nigella Express. Fast food that is tasty as well.
I sat there open mouthed in astonishment. I've never really watched her cooking shows before, but I love her cook books and use them frequently. Her prose is evocative and makes me want to cook the meals and spend ages making really nice meals that are really bad for you. The tv programme was RUBBISH: I wanted to throw things at the screen. How smug and gluttonous does she sound? I hope she meant it to be tongue in cheek, but it didn't come over that way.
The worst bit was when she made soup to take with her because she had a very full day ahead. The shots of her during this day consisted of her sat drinking soup in various locations around London. Not MY idea of a busy day. And another thing: each time the cup was clean before she started drinking: how would you wash it up?
The programme redeemed itself with the last item: Hokey Pokey, or cinder toffee. It really did take half an hour from start to finish, including cooling time.
Do excuse the rant, but I felt quite strongly at the time and I have forgotten what I was going to say about cooking over the weekend.
I have yet to download the photos of the crochet and the Fairtrade Cola so they will have to wait.
In my Chalet School marathon, I have reached A Leader in/at the CS, another one of my favourites and one of only two hardbacks in my collection. Nearly there now. If I remember correctly, they become less wonderful towards the end.
