Earlier this term, I went on my first field trip since I was 13. Having chucked Geography at the earliest possible opportunity, I missed out on all the wet trips to map ponds and things like that. I understand that field trips got more interesting at sixth form and uni, what with the addition of alcohol and such like things.

Maths is not known for inspiring many field trips, particularly since I preferred not to do any course which had the faintest possibility of application to the real world. I didn't hold out much hope for theology either, but I was wrong.

We went on a field trip to Oxford to see some genuine history. I think the idea is that we will get more enthusiastic about it if we have real experiences to compare with. We are looking mainly at Twentieth Century Anglican History, but with reference to anything relevant. There was certainly a lot of history to see. Apart from getting absolutely soaked to the skin, it was a very good day. I would have liked more than 10 minutes in Blackwells, but never mind.

Must go - seminars to blag and essays to panic about.
The best bit of the day was a trip to the Eagle and Child pub - a long held ambition of mine. This is the famous 'Bird and Baby' where CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien et al met each week. Sadly, I did not receive any particular literary inspiration from it, just a rather insipid cup of coffee. I was driving, so could not have the appropriate pint of real ale.
