America

Two of my favourite comedians have been to America (separately). I knew their programmes were coming up at some point, but I wasn't expecting them within a week of each other.

First up: Dave Gorman in America Unchained. I recorded this when it was on earlier this week. So far I'm 40 minutes in (I don't have the stamina for watching things longer than 42 minutes at the moment) and mildly amused. Not quite up to his usual standard. For a start, this all seems a bit contrived: trying to get across America without giving any money to the big chains. It isn't as wacky as AYDG and just seems to be doing another project for another project's sake. There was one really moving moment in a coffee house that was closing down, but other than that the film seems to be mostly clips of scanning the roadside for independent gas stations. I will report back further.

Then on Sunday there is Stephen Fry's latest offering: touring all 50 states (and DC) in a Black Cab. I'm really looking forward to it. There is very little that Mr Fry does which does not result in tears of laughter and a general fascinated appreciation for his gift of language.

Tomorrow Mr F and I are going for a long lunch and leisurely shopping trip on our own to celebrate 4 years and 2 days of married life. You cannot begin to imagine how much I am looking forward to this.
