What is worse than listening to a dull sermon?
Being required to read books on how to make sermons not as dull as they otherwise might be.
I believe there are three requirements for writing a book about sermons:
- A capacity for flowery language and/or a propensity for making up new words: ideation anyone?
- A general ability to use three paragraphs when one short sentence will do.
- A one-size-fits-all theory which can be used on any text/subject to create the perfect sermon.
I remain unconvinced, but the book review has to be in on Friday so I had better figure out some good reasons why I remain unconvinced and back it up with reference to some other dull books on sermon-writing.
