We went to our first Neways meeting last night. Each week they have a Wednesday-night meeting where they have a product presentation in one room and a business speaker in another, then they also have other meetings during the week that might have better/more in-depth info. You don't have to go, but you're encouraged to. It's a bit like church - but the people are very, very friendly. I said to Elicia that this is because everyone there has an interest in you continuing to be involved because it directly affects their income due to the nature of network marketing - therefore of course they are friendly - but surely at a church being friendly directly affects your eternal salvation (for the friendee I mean, not necessarily the friend), which should be even more reason...?
An interesting thing about it is that the busines model is viewed as another product they have to sell. If people are getting sick - give them the vitamin and mineral range. If they have skin conditions - there's an all-natural skin care range. If someone is poor - make them a distributor.
We had an interesting discussion on the way home in the car about how this would fit into God's plan. I don't think God has anything against working and being successful and even being rich, as long as you do it nicely. But when we hear about missionaries in Africa or Asia and the hardships they go through but the incredible trust they have in God, it seems like everything we do is pointless. Everything is meaningless, a chasing after the wind! Not very comforting when you are trying to figure out what to do with your life, though.
