Soft again, thank goodness

Time :: 10:00am
Temperature :: -8 deg C!
Total Centimetres of Snow :: 131
Conditions :: We had much snow yesterday and last night, it's beautiful out there now but very cold and fairly windy.

To briefly tell the digging-the-car-out story: We did the digging part alright but then the motor wouldn't even turn over when we tried to start it. Luckily there was an RACV guy waiting for someone else, he jump started us and towed us out of the park spot so we could attach our chains. Then he advised us that our ladder-style chains aren't really good enough for Hotham because the roads in are steep, I'm thinking yeah, whatever, we don't use them much anyway - but then as we were driving off one of the "ladders" came of and starting flinging around the wheel cavity. Not Good. So we bought some new (ex-hire) diamond-pattern chains while we were in Bright.

Then last night it was snowing so heavily that they weren't allowing cars free access to the road, they were only allowing traffic "convoys" to follow the snowplow down (and up) every 1/2 hour or so. Unreal. We were safely back here not wanting to go anywhere by then of course. Actually we had some friends over for dinner, the guy is a computer programmer who hooked up to the internet while he was here, it was nice to meet a fellow computerhead and talk geek-speak for a while.

Elicia doesn't work until 5pm this afternoon, so if I can get her out of bed we might go snowboarding this morning. The new falls mean it will all be nice and soft again, although the wind might pose a problem...

Handy Tips for Living at Mt Hotham #32, #33, #34 and #35
Disconnect the terminals from your car battery so that it won't go flat while sitting there. Get diamond pattern chains. Put your chains on before you park the car.
And, most importantly, make sure you are in the RACV.
