We went and saw "The Notebook" the other night. It's a chick-flick romance - but a good one - and with some very sad parts as well. The frame narrative is an old bloke reading a story from a notebook to an old woman in a nursing home. The story is about two young lovers, and in a shocking twist it turns out to be the old couple in their younger days. Don't worry, I haven't spoiled it - there's a few other surprises in there. Basically it's a romanic tear-jerker that has a good example of lifelong love.
One thing I've noticed about chick flicks is that there always has to be two guys who want to marry the lead girl, both of whom are incredibly handsome and charming, usually one rich and one poor. The main challenge in the movie is to decide between the two. I can't think of any movies where these gender roles are reversed... interesting.
