I got a special package in the mail this week! A book from the lovely Birdie, complete with bookmarks made from baby b's handprints and a lovely postcard of Abergavenny. Which, incidently, does not look unlike Northern Gippsland.
The book is titled "Round About A Pound A Week", it records the lives and daily budgets of working-class families in a poor part of London between 1909 and 1913. It looks absolutely fascinating, and Birdie (and the back cover of the book) assures me it's not at all as depressing as it sounds like it could be.
I'll get back with a full report once I've read it, but for now: Much thanks!
