We went up to Mt Hotham for the long weekend. It was great to get away, we had a fairly quiet New Year's Eve watching movies and drinking wine, we also got a chance to go on a walk across Razorback Ridge where we found ourselves on a track only several metres wide with a very steep falloff either side leading to long, green valleys and awesome views all around - no wonder this is one of the most popular alpine walks in Australia. We didn't make it all the way to Feathertop, but it's definitely on our list of things to do before winter.
We also spent time painting, hanging curtains and moving furniture (and testing the new tv and dvd). The place looks a lot better than when we started, and it will probably only take one more trip for a second coat of paint and a new couch and it will be finished!
We also had two interviews for lodge managing positions. The first was Sunday afternoon and was for the lodge that we really want, mainly because it's the smallest. The interview was relaxed, the lady was friendly, but she said they'd need to see a few more people before they decide, and that won't be until March.
The second was in Melbourne on the way home Monday. We arrived early, which was lucky because it took 1/2 hour to find a carpark, and then the one we did find was 20 minutes walk from the meeting place. Parking closer in one of the buildings designed for all-day, undercover parking was going to cost $33 for 2 hours! $4 for the side of the road and a walk seemed good in comparison. Anyway, this was a much more professional interview with a panel, all taking notes. They seemed very friendly and quite positive, which is disconcerting because we don't want this lodge as our first choice. Oh well, we'll see what happens.
Saturday evening:
The sun a yolk in the vein of gold
spreading across the horizon
clouds above lit in violet and red
while below, infinite peaks become
islands in the rolling sea of mist.
