I'm very excited - this is my first wiblog from my new office in our new house. Most of the boxes that contained office miscellania are emptied into my bookshelves and cupboard, although there are a couple shoved under my desk awaiting a set of drawers and perhaps even a filing cabinet.
My office is only a little bit bigger than previously, but the rest of the house is enormous. Well, for us it's enormous. Keep in mind that for the last six months we have lived in A) a "studio apartment" (aka one room) and B) a bedroom in a share house (also one room, although in a bigger house). Even before that it was only a 2br flat. So having three bedrooms immediately triples our space, not to mention the large kitchen, dining area, hallway and a lounge that has floor-to-ceiling windows with a semi-ocean view. And did I mention our master bedroom has a walkthrough wardrobe and an ensuite? Luxury!
Having said all that, the house really is run down. Lots of things I think should have been fixed before we moved in. Like only 50% or the light globes in the place work. My office door handle and several cupboard handles in the kitchen are loose or crooked. There is a hole in the plaster wall behind the door in the 2nd bedroom where the doorknob has gone through because there is no doorstop. And the curtains are faded brown and very old, the carpet is brown, the tiles in the kitchen are uneven. But there is a dishwasher in the kitchen too, by the way. A very old one that does appear to work.
It's the sort of place that would be great to buy for a good price (if there is such a thing any more) and do up nicely, however because we're renting the amount of renovations I'll do are limited. Anyway, I've already fixed a couple of doorknobs and that sort of thing, once the rest of our boxes are unpacked we'll sort things out more fully.
Back to the grandparents :: not only did they help us move all our stuff Sunday but Grandpa has been around today to fix a sliding door, repair our old washing machine, test all the light points in the whole house, offer general helpful advice and best of all, put a phone point in my office. Hence I am able to be online right now.
