The Church of England has produced another piece of guidance' on the question of homosexuality. And it's clear as a bell, as you would expect. But just in case someone doesn't understand it, What Gentlemen Don't Discuss has produced a helpful guide as to what you can and can't do if you're gay and an Anglican.
You can:
Take communion
You can't:
Give communion out.
You can:
Be a priest in a same sex union
You can't:
Be a priest and have sex with the person you're in the same sex union with
You can:
Do whatever you like if you're a church warden or hold some minor' church office, because it doesn't really count then, does it
You can't:
Do whatever you like if you're a priest, bishop or deacon; because it matters then.
BASIC RULE:
If, in the course of your church duties, you have to wear Strange and Peculiar Vestments, you're not allowed to be a practising homosexual.
Hope that's clear now.
In a great Emperor's New Clothes moment on Radio 4, James Naughtie made the following comment whilst hosting a debate between people from the liberal and conservative wings of the church: Basically, it comes down to whether or not you classify it as a sin. Until you decide that, whatever you come up with is just going to be a fudge, isn't it?'
