Prayer

I don't do this very much, but here is a post related to spirituality. Even rarer, it's a non-cynical post about spirituality.

Something positive happened to a friend yesterday that I'd been praying for quite a bit. It's not that the exact thing I'd been praying for happened, but something positive did. And I thought about other things I'd prayed for, and how God had answered them.

Do not be fooled into thinking that I am a prayer warrior, for I am not. I sometimes try to sit down and pray the Lords prayer, using the lines as subject headings for a prayer of my own. I typically get to 'thy kingdom come' and then all concentration goes, and the next thing I realise is that I've been sat there for about fifteen minutes daydreaming. In contrast to praying, I am very good at daydreaming.

But God does answer prayer, doesn't he? He does. And not just for some special individuals, although I suspect that some people have heightened spiritual awareness that means that they more easily see how he's answered their prayers.

So I've decided to pray more, because my experience is that it 'works' - God uses our prayers, and changes situations in response to them. I will pray for people and friends and situations that I want God to work in. And I will write this as a memory aid to myself that I said I would do it.

This does also mean that I will spend longer on the sofa daydreaming. Perhaps I should go the Lord Whiteadder route and get a spike to sit on, as it would improve my concentration. Can anybody recommend any good spikes? Failing that, can anyone recommend any good books on prayer?
