In memoriam

I found this article very moving, mainly because I knew the person who died, in an assisted suicide.

I have particulary fond memories of sitting in his house whilst watching cricket. I was meant to be working at the time, but we were both more interested in the cricket.

He was a lovely bloke, 'onehelluvaboy' as we say in these parts and very full of life, which must have made his poor quality of life at the end intolerable.

I don't believe we should allow assisted suicide. For each person like him surrounded by loving family, there are others who would feel pressured into the decision. I do believe it's a slippery slope to medics and families judging whether someone has adequate quality of life to warrant staying alive.

But no-one, least of all God, would judge him personally for his decision, I'm sure of that. Blessings, peace and mercy to his family, especially in their dealings with the law.
