I understand my fathers better now

Growing up, my house was full of books. To a child, most were pretty dull. And the dullest of them all? The eight volume row of thick black books, occupying pride of place on the lounge bookshelf. The best part of a million words translated from the original academic German.

The titles of the books was Church Dogmatics. Thrilling. And just in case it looked too interesting, the author insisted on giving them titles like 'Church Dogmatics 3.4: The Doctrine of Reconciliation.' As any Hollywood exec knows, revenge gets more punters in than reconciliation.

But my dad loved these books. I always assumed, especially when going through my atheist phase, that he had to be joking when he described how exciting they were.

My interest was therefore perked when I saw this blog, a summary of the Great Karl Barth, (all low church ministers say 'Peace be upon him'). I think the author finds it even more exciting than my dad.

But I must say, I'm grateful to him for posting it. I now feel I can say I understand my fathers better. Both of them, the earthly and the heavenly.
