i run
the continuous rumble of traffic fills my senses but my mind is focussed on the horizon and each footstep.
the traffic fades as i leave the houses behind.
a white mist descends over the fields, what were shimmering puddles earlier take on an icy sheen as the temperature drops
i run on
bicycle tracks wind off down the muddy path into the distance, less sure underfoot now but solitary and silent save for the sound of my breath and the squelch of each footfall
with the sight sun long gone the white gloom fades to grey and visibility drops. The path is straight, the end veiled, implied only by the glow of a distant streetlamp.
i run on
the pavement calls again and lightens my feet, the feeling, the noises change, streetlights struggling and failing to push the gloom away.
traffic rumble returns, the fumes bitter in my mouth but in a way comforting, signalling the end is near.
houses, cars, people, mind now focused on the end.
i run on
