by the time i got changed and outside the ground was a respectable shade of white, and it was still coming down.
had i planned for this eventuality when i packed this morning i would have brought some tracksters to keep my legs warm, and my cap to keep the snow out of my eyes. as it was i made do in shorts and a waterproof jacket.
to start with it was impressively cold but i knew i'd warm up, and i did, although it took rather longer than normal and my hands were rather painful for a time.
the slush on the pavement was mostly unspoilt but fairly slippery in places. i ran down the road to the canal where the only dangers are a) falling in it and b) being snagged by an angler. it's a far cry from my last run here in the spring/summer, so no anglers today, and the difference between the puddles on the towpath and the canal itself was marginal in places.
the last time i ran this route several months ago i was observing the progress of a new housing estate on the other side, to my surprise they didn't appear to have made much progress.
i carried on past snow covered canal boats, made to hold people these days, and mused about the industrial heritage of these convenient traffic free routes i use.
a little research shows this to be the stratford canal
with some photos of the bit i run on here and here
back on the road my legs were turning a funny colour and i couldnt really feel them, no matter though as they seemed to work still! my soaked laces unfurled themselves so i had to stop and do them up again, luckily my hands had thawed out by then.
a quick measurement of the route shows 5.45miles and in just under 42minutes making 7:42min/mile average pace.
shoes are now drying gently by the radiator in preperation for whatever the weather throws at us tomorrow!
[todays run: 5.45miles 0:42]
[this weeks run total: 5.45]
