really can't put over what a fab experience open water swimming is!
always approached with caution and trepidation, which is wise!

but whilst you might think it crazy to be pulling on a wetsuit at 7:30am on a sunday morning, wading into a perfectly still lake in bright sunshine and blue skies gives such a new perspective on things.
admittedly the feeling of cold water filling the wetsuit is a bit of a shock to the system (and no.. i don't pee in it to warm it up).

started off well, swimming alongside phil. the sighting was going ok and managed to swim in a reasonably straight line to the first buoy. had the usual feeling knackered after 100m feeling leaving to lag behind and catch my breath with a bit of breast stroke.
the return leg goes back round the other side of the two islands and is a bit trickier as there's no convenient buoys on the water to sight and head for, which leaves you having to look further up for a tree on the horizon or keeping an eye on a life belt to one side.

we really must look like complete nutters... but who cares!

once around was enough though! need to work up to two laps asap which is about 1500-1600m depending how much you wiggle!

by the time we'd had a shower and a bite to eat a few more were in the water so we felt good about having been first in and having the place all to ourselves. plus you have to be out by 9am before the boats take to the water!

here is where we swim.. should you have the desire to come and visit! or even try it out (wetsuit recomended and don't do it alone)

[this weeks totals: 0.8km swim 0miles bike 5.5miles run]
