My first real taste of "alt.worship" last night. Never been entirely convinced about it before - the collect for purity and the Canon of the Mass seem to have worked perfectly well for centuries; I don't see why we should be tinkering with them now.
A very good set of activities - the usual collection of candles and bits of paper, but very effective. Blowing OUT a candle to indicate a prayer, washing of hands, a space for a "second go" at gathering oneself and letting things go (always helpful - standard liturgies actually forget that an action isn't always effective first time around).
The some activities - making noise on instruments, playing with building blocks, sitting still, putting prayers on a "prayer tree", watching tablets dissolve in water. Although we did this individually, the sense of gathered communality was not lost, and the whole thing was brought together with a joint act of prayer at the end.
V. good.
