nice men out there.
I had an evening out, with some friends in the city this evening, and missed my train home by two minutes. The next one had been replaced by a coach as engineering work was to take place on the line over night. It was to take just under an hour to get home by coach, via all the stops etc ... I was not amused. I hate travelling at the best of times. I hate travelling an unknown route even more and having never done this before, I can safely say I was starting to worry. In fact I was thinking to myself over and over "think beach, and dont panic" "think beach and dont panic" (the idea of htinking beach is to take mind of the panic issue and there fore not panic) ... Anyway, I thought about a cab. Silly, yes, to expensive, way too expensive. Anyway, the bus arrived, just about to jump on when I thought, I will ask what time we will arrive at my station, when the very same time a nice young business suited man asked the same thing, to the same place. I smiled, and said something like "I cant believe this..." , and he said, "ahh I am gonna get a cab, want to jump in?"
I was like, oooh, ok!
Heavens knows what made me do that, maybe the panic rising of the late night bus round routes I didnt know outweighed the risk of jumping in a car with a total stranger. Anyway, I said I only have 20 pound in my purse, would that be enough to go halfs, and he said, ahh dont worry.
So in the cab I get, arriving home 15 minutes later after a nice chat with the young man. Finding out about his job, and other random things. I offered him money several times, and he said no.
His company were going to pay it.
I just thought what a blessing. I have been the recipient of an act of kindness. A real act of kindness, he could have seen a way of getting quids in, taking money from me, and still paying the fare through his company. But he didnt. His offer, generosity and kindness came at exactly the right time.
I dont advise this generally by the way, hopping into random cabs with random people, but it was a storke of luck for me
