Trying to keep cool

It's a bit warm here - there's been an Orange Alert in the area for a Canicule (heatwave) with predicted temperatures of 34°. It's hot for us, but I feel sorry for the cats in their furry coats. They find a coolish place (the cellar is popular, as is the Salon downstairs) and sleep until lunchtime. Then they move onto the balcony, which is shaded in the afternoon, until late in the evening, as they can watch the birds, or the bats, and "chatter" at them. There have been some goldcrests (I think that's what Mr D said they are) who are very interested in the elderberries on the elder tree/bush; the cats have been very interested in the birds!

Like the locals, in the heat, we keep the shutters closed. But we can't quite convince ourselves that keeping the windows closed is the right thing to do - I suppose we hope for a breeze - so we do end up letting in warm air from outside. So, today Milly has found a different shaded place to spend the morning, where she might also catch a bit of a breeze - here she is outside my study window.
