And, no, I am not going to give up on church, just because I’ve hit a longer than expected rough patch with it, and indeed I do not want to give up on church. It’s a difficult place to be, but then no-one ever said this turning your life over to God malarkey was ever going to be easy!
I think I have given up on church, mostly. But I think you're right: turning your life over to God isn't easy. And I'm not very good at it. The difference between you and I is that you have said you don't want to give up on church. Me, I'm not sure? I've not been since Easter, and really I've not missed it. (And I'm thinking they've not missed me, as nobody has really shown much concern about my absence) (Does that sound as Egotistically Me-me-me! as I think it does? It's not meant to...)
I am planning to make the effort to go to church tomorrow, but I face it with as much pleased anticipation as I face the thought of a cycle ride this afternoon - that is to say, none at all!
