Belated Hallowe'en Greetings.

I'm not a Hallowe'en person - mostly because in the UK there were gangs of Trick-or-Treaters demanding sweeties with menaces. I'm also not quite happy - but don't quite know why - with the religious side of it. Although I don't believe in the existence of the Devil per se, I do believe in evil, in an opposite to God, and to mix "Evil" with "Fun" doesn't quite sit happily with me. However, despite this, we went to a friend's Hallowe'en - or Samhain, as she called it - party. It was enjoyable, and everyone had gone to town on their costumes.

The day before I'd helped with pumpkin carving. I was, I have to say, very proud of my cat face pumpkin:

I went dressed as a gypsy fortune teller, and Mr D went as D.Racula, Corporate Banker (& bloodsucker). He greyed his hair with talcum powder (I do like a grey haired man!) and whited his face (is that a verb?) And wore his suit and shirt and tie from his days in the city! However we didn't get photos taken on my camera, so I can't show you what we looked like! But here's C as a witch and J as QuasimodoTo be perfectly honest, I'm not quite sure what S came as... He looks like someone from a rather grungy glam-rock band (if there is such a thing!)

Whoever he is, he's stoking up the fires of hell here. Or at least, the woodburner!

And C was a very glamourous witch in her red wig and beautiful dress.

J can be seen in the background in his Pumpkin-Spider-Man outfit. Slightly sinister-seventies feel about it! There was delicious soup, bread, mulled wine, marshmallows to toast, plus apple duckingand doughnut-and-apple bobbing. No photos of those. And, of course, dancing...which is when we left, as my ankle was beginning to hurt and Mr D doesn't "do" dancing. As the music gets bumped up and as the beat goes on, it means he can't chat to people, as you have to SHOUT very loudly to get heard. I didn't mind (much.) as I'm an Early-to-Bed kind of girl.

So, I hope everyone enjoyed whatever they were doing on 31st October. My photos aren't of the beautiful pumpkin-and-leaf displays of many bloggers on other sites...but of good friends having fun. That's what we do.
