...the day we went to Bangor? " Or in our case the day we went to the ruins of the Chateau des Cornes d'Urfé, Cervieres and Notre-Dame-L'Hermitage?

My friend arrived on Thursday, and after a day's cleaning I wasn't too exhausted! I'd had a reviving bath at a friends' (because our bath is too tiny for anyone with my ample hip size plus height to fit into) and so was ready to meet T.

The following day I was working, so she was looked after by Mr D and I believe they went for a walk around our village. I was teaching - and forgetting to buy Mr D's 50th birthday present. aargh! When am I going to be able to get something now?! I hope for inspiration on Tuesday when I've got a hospital appointment and I think Mr D will be working. On Friday evening the three of us went out to dinner at our local restaurant. The food is very good, and the Chariot des desserts is almost unbelievable. On this visit we had the choice between: tarte aux framboises, tarte aux myrtilles, tarte aux pommes, tartes aux abricots, tarte citron meringuée, fresh fruit salad, fresh myrtilles (bilberries), prunes in armagnac, chocolate mousse, Gateau St Honoré, millefeuilles, Iles Flottant (soft meringue, creamy custard and caramel sauce), Fruit meringue gateau, and crème caramel. And you can choose as many as you wish - the record amongst our friends is seven! I had my usual: fruit salad and a slice of the fruit meringue gateau.

On Saturday T and I  visited the local places that I love going to.

First the Chateau: built in the 1100s, and deserted after the revolution (I think) it can be seen on the hills overlooking our village. From the tower the views around are fantastic. IMG_0179IMG_0176 You'll haveto lie on your side for that one!

On the way back, we came across this field of wild flowers   IMG_0066 . Then onto Cervieres, a hilltop village. We had a wander into the Church where we met St Roch (more on him later. I think he might deserve a post of his own) in a window and looked around the rest of the village. There are some lovely housesIMG_0184 (again, lie on your side - I'm not sure how to manipulate the photos yet. I shall learn, but for now you'll have to lie down, or give yourself a crick in the neck!) and the floral displays were a treat!

Pause for a drink in the little café and then onto Notre Dame L'Hermitage. Here is a link to their website (http://www.notredamedelhermitage-noiretable.fr/index.html) (designed by Mr D in fact. )

It's a really peaceful place, with pleasant walks to the chapel IMG_0194 and splendid views from the Cross

IMG_0191 Mr D had gone cycling with the local cycle club (only 81 km today...) so we were in no hurry to get home, so we lingered over a coconut ice cream before going home for a delicious Thai vegetable curry. A thoroughly splendid day.

More on yesterday's thoroughly splendid day another time. As I've skived off going on a walk because I need to "do stuff" I'd better go and do it. "It" being making Mr D's 50th birthday card. TTFN.
