Hello Folks! Life here is infinitely better than the first couple of weeks...I'm in the last week now, and because we have no new students arriving, we were able to have our groups and levels on Friday so we've had the weekend to plan. I did a bit yesterday, but mostly I just chilled - reading (I'm on the third book of the Millenium trilogy - "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" - very good. They've been great to read through this time), seeing off Anna and June, who left over the weekend. They have become good friends, so I hope I can keep in touch with them. We also watched "The Way" last night - a really enjoyable movie about a father who walks the Camino de Santiago de Compostella in memory of his dead son. Very moving - we were blubbing into tissues all the way through...so it was very cathatic too!

Here is the story summary from the site:

THE WAY is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage "The Way of St. James" to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him. Through unexpected and oftentimes amusing experiences along "The Way," Tom discovers the difference between "the life we live and the life we choose.”

Inexperienced as a trekker, Tom soon discovers that he will not be alone on this journey. On "The Way," Tom meets other pilgrims from around the world, each with their own issues and looking for greater meaning in their lives: a Dutchman (Yorick van Wageningen), a Canadian (Deborah Kara Unger) and an Irish writer (James Nesbitt), who is suffering from a bout of writer's block.

From the unexpected and, oftentimes, amusing experiences along "The Way," this unlikely quartet of misfits creates an everlasting bond and Tom begins to learn what it means to be a citizen of the world again.  Through Tom's unresolved relationship with his son, he discovers the difference between "the life we live and the life we choose."

THE WAY, written and directed by Emilio Estevez, was filmed entirely in Spain and France along the actual Camino de Santiago.

If you get the chance, see this film!

Life otherwise pootles on. Last week looms, so not many students. Hopefully it should be easier. Last weekend I visited friends, which was great: able to get away from herec and talk about other things. We saw one of my Godsons and his lovely girlfriend, and enjoyed chatting and catching up. I did a bit of shopping at Street Clarks Village - I bought mugs for three of my friends here as little gifts: June, Anna and Clare. Clare's here for the last week like me, but June and Anna have gone.

Then, I'm off to mum's for maybe 10 days or so, then back home to France to see my Kitties (and Mr D, of course!!) Mr D's job is, I think, getting more bearable, as he gets used to Stuff, and how it all works. I'll have the rest of August off and then back to work in September.
