Happy New Year everyone!

So: how was Christmas? The day itself was quiet, but enjoyable, spent with my mum in Liverpool. The time around it was hectic but enjoyable with lots of travelling around, seeing friends and catching up on news. New Year's Eve was not a Big Event - it never is for us, usually spent at home with a bottle of fizzies and something nice to eat and a DVD. This year it was even less of an event than that, as we were in bed and sleeping by 10.30. We'd been up early to pick up my MiL at Gatwick airport, so we were tired and she was jetlagged, having spent Christmas in Canada.

I forgot to take my camera, so I have no photos to post - imagine though:

*Godson, and brother and sister - my, haven't they grown!? It was fabulous seeing them again - their parents are very dear friends of ours, and it was good to pick up exactly where we left off - 18 months ago!

* us and our friends walking back from Frome town centre in the snow, singing carols and scaring the horses.

* Minim, their sturdy ginger mog. Oh, I still miss Pumpkin!

* the first few snowflakes falling in the lamplight

* Simon and Guy (Other Godson and brother - my, how they've grown)

* Elegant Lord Street, in Southport on Christmas Eve. It wasn't very busy, but it was very pretty with the lights and snow.

* Christmas Dinner - mum, Mr D and me, with a delicious roast beef dinner. No Yorkshires but little mushroom tartlets. Yum!

* Formby beach in the snow on Boxing Day.

* Walk somewhere near Scunthorpe (my, it was cold!) with BiL and family, plus friends as well.

* Abbi - daughter of a friend - what a smile she has! We spent happy hours drawing in her new book.

* Snow covered fields outside MiL's house in rural Kent.

I hope you liked my "photos"!

And now we're back in snowy St Just ready to go back to w*rk tomorrow. While I'm not very keen on the idea, I have to be grateful that I have work to go to. I start with a new student tomorrow - I have no idea of his level, so I have a variety of activities to do, and we shall see which suits him best.

Tonight we're playing Santa Claus as we take belated presents from England to our friends in the village (as well as teabags, custard creams, Oxo cubes, sausages, parsnips and bacon!) It will be nice to catch up on all of their news from over Christmas.

As for other NYResolutions: I'm not a great fan of these as I rarely, if ever, keep to them. But I realised this Christmas how horribly porky I am getting. So I am admitting here that I resolve to:

- only drink alcohol at weekends (unless I'm out at friends. Well, it would be rude to say no, wouldn't it!!!)  :-) And that's only 4 out of 7 days. I'm sure I can manage that. Starting...Tomorrow!

- to try to eat more healthily. Less chocklit, fewer biskits, and more fruit/veg/wholewheat pasta & bread

- to (and this will be the most difficult for me!!) do a tad more exercise. Mr D is going to put the bike on the trainer. I need to do some time on it - especially if I'm going to join the Cycle Club this year.

One site I saw had a photo of the woman in question photographed each month in her bra and panties, showing herself as she "disappeared". It was a good thing in a way - but I feel for my Gentle Readers: I think it would be just Too Horrible for you all! So I won't. But I'll try to remember to update you on the weight loss (if it happens, that is!)

So Happy New year to everyone: may it be fulfilling and blessed for you all.

And Thank You to my WISE Secret Santa for the calendar. It's going up in the kitchen as soon as I go downstairs. I hope everyone enjoyed all their Secret Santa prezzies that they received.
