P'tuee? Putoui? However it's spelt it's the sound of Pumpkin not taking her tablets. Sorry, I'm a bit obsessed by the problem of getting pills down our stubborn little cat. It's delightful that she's almost back to being her purry bouncy inquisitive self, but she's also being her stubborn annoying self. We have tried tempting her with: sardines, paté de foie, butter, biscuits and cream. She licks a little and then puh too-ees as she discovers the tablet. Mr D follows her round the house talking in reasonable tones to her: "Now, come on Pumpkin. We know you don't like them, but they're truly for your own good." Pumpkin casts a scornful glance in his direction and heads off to hide under the bed.

We've tried wrap her like a burrito and try to force tablet into mouth. She squeals like we're trying to kill her and then puh too-ees the tablet out. Then escapes from the towel burrito (with liberal use of needly sharp claws) and scoots off, glaring balefully at us as she goes.

But then! Success! We crushed up the tablets and mixed the powder with a lump of cream cheese. We got her in the towel burrito again and smeared the cream cheese on her tongue.  Being sticky and claggy it was too difficult to puh too-ee out, so she ended up taking the tablets. Yay!

Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised to find a little pile of cream cheese sick somewhere, with a self satisfied Pumpkin sitting next to it, smiling a "See, if I don't want to take my tablets I won't" kitty smile.

But I still love my No 1 cat dearly.
