Okay, so due to things going a little banana shaped recently, I had an impromptu day off last Thursday. This is how I spent it:
Had to go grocery shopping, but allowed myself to buy yummy things for lunch whilst doing so. Bought a set of plastic skittles, ostensibly for the yoof group at chapel, but mainly 'cos I WANTED to and I COULD! (Husband sunsequently told me that the yoof already have a skittles set but, hey, Ee's birthday beach bash this coming Sat is a good enough excuse for me!) Also purchased freshly mined Pot Noodle, a gingerbread Bart Simpson and a local paper for Husband.
After shopping, I popped into town. Sensible me would usually have gone straight home, there was frozen sorbet in the boot after all...but self-indulgent me decided that I wanted to buy a particular magazine to read whilst enjoying my lunch. After purchasing said mag (imaginatively entitled 'Horse' if you really must know), I wandered into HMV cos I fancied a new CD. This may not be unusual for many of you but, formerly, CDs have fallen into the category of 'luxury, gift or occasional treat' for me. After all, thinks I, what is radio for? (Radio 4 is a desparately serious BBC station...umm...sorry). Anyway, I saw a CD I fancied...and another....and another...err, and another. Hehehe, I bought them ALL! Got a £5.00 voucher for doing so.
Walked out and shared the joy by spending £5.00 on a Big Issue (isn't genuine surprise and gratitude great?!?). I plonked a pound in the hat of some buskers, gave them a big smile and cheesey thumbs up (well, why not?) and walked on with a spring in my step.
After a lovely lunch, yum yum yum, I spent the afternoon pootling away on the pooter, reading the mag and the Big Issue and listening to my fab new CDs (list and reviews available on request!)
Husband arrived home later to a v chilled Dith. He appreciated Pot Noodle, with 'Fuel of Britain, isn't it?' label waiting for him in kitchen, along with other offerings purchased earlier and £5.00 HMV voucher. He wont EAT the Noodley gunk, but its a laugh, innit? We relaxed with a cuppa and chatted for a while.
7pm was time for my regular horse-riding lesson. Bloody fanatastic! I had the most stubborn horse I have EVER ridden but, heck, I can be pretty stubborn myself! After much cajoling and shouting (yes, shouting), much to the amusement of teacher, fellow riders and onlookers, I was rewarded with the most marvellous canter. If you want to know the definition of exhiliarating, try sitting on a horse that is zooming across the ground. Few things are better!
Tired and happy, with my legs more like jelly than a jelly-fish in a bowl of jelly, I arrived home and had welcome bath. Pizza was consumed and some quality TV was watched by myself and by much-loved Husband before retiring to bed more relaxed an happy than I have been in a while.
If you EVER have the opportunity, I would thoroughly reccommend a day of spoiling yourself in this way. The benefits are amazing, as I am sure you can tell ;-)
This, as the title suggests, is the first of a series. The week-end was, in fact, more of a blessing than I imagined it could ever be. More to follow. The series will conclude with a prescription from world renowned psychotherapist-analyst-lifecoach, Dr Von Dithhausen. Watch this space...
