I know, it's only October, but face it - the retailers are telling us the end is nigh... Can't you tell by the Christmas decorations in stock? I imagine, before we can turn around, the garish window paintings will begin hurrying us in-store to stock up in time... as if it's the end of the world rather than just the end of the year.
And it isn't just the wallet that suffers the pressure. It's the calendar too.
Here's me, meditating over a quick visit to the homeland to meet the next addition to the Singular clan (if he/she ever arrives) and/or taking up the offer of a weekend 'up yonder' for a Bliss reunion and a wibmeet with Chops and the Lovely One - (oooh and the Steak Club).
I pull out the calendar to find a couple of free weekends and there are woefully few. My flabber is ghasted.
I have/had
This weekend -
Lunch at the Moody Chef Cafe in St Leonards (delish)
Dinner at the Bavarian Beer Cafe in Manly (Happy Birthday Miss Lisa and what a lovely venue)
A kitchen tea (hopes desperately there are no silly games in same vein as baby shower games)
And will have in the following weekends
2 weddings (ka ching$$$$)
A camera club outing
A young (cough) entrepreneurs (choke) breakfast
Cocktails and Dinner with Kaffin and Booker
The Girly Big Thing at church, at which attendance is compulsory (ack... all that estrogen)
A Party at the Miss Lisa mansion, for no other reason that to party.
Breakfast with Ron and Jeff and the small girls at the Glasshouse at the (new) Hilton (ooh la la)
(ed. Not necessarily in that order)
And actually, this is all before December - Which is when airfares get stupidly priced...
Bugger, looks like a trans-tasman visit is out of the question, and Chops? Flick suggested a trip 'up yonder' in January...
