Whale Watching

I'm not an animal freak. Don't get me wrong, I like them and all... I get pretty amazed by the handiwork of God when I read about zebras and how cool they are and all that sort of thing. But, you know... I don't kind of get off on animal rights. (Oh god.. there goes half my readership right?)

[insert gratuitious apology]

Anyway, I like dogs, (but nowhere near so much as her, I love bears (but you can't keep them round the house), I'm genuinely fond of cats (they feel great curled around your feet at the end of the bed) and I actually own a goldfish (even if he really is wonky looking).

But, if there was one animal that could tip me over the edge into idiot animal lover territory it would be a marine mammal.

You know, a dolphin or a porpoise or perhaps an orca, and even though I'm not much of one for being in the water I'd love to go swimming with one (ok, perhaps not an orca).

Well, swimming with dolphins is not something on offer as a thing to do in Manly on the weekends (so far as I know) and so it's a happy day when you go on your usual morning jaunt and can stop and watch the humpbacks have their coastal spring carnival in your own back yard.

Ok, I have to confess this isn't a picture I took, and I wasn't that close to the whales (there were two) but this is what I was watching... whales waving good morning.

And it was [insert superlative of choice] amazing.
