Rediscoveries.

I've been rediscovering some things.

I've been a big fan of Ms Mann since the cold harsh winter of 2000 when I randomly chose a 3 hour long video from Blockbuster (St. Andrews branch) and settled in for a long night of Paul Tomas Anderson's magnificent Magnolia, the soundtrack to which was supplied primarily by Ms Mann with Supertramp playing the support slot (not often you can say that). Anyway, her next album was called Lost in Space, which is appropriate as it completely passed me by, maybe something to do with being in the midst of the worst part of M.E. at the time. Ho hum. So I've been rediscovering it and it's turning into one of my favourite singer/songwriter albums ever. So the award for lyric of the week goes to Aimee Mann for the following lines from The Moth:

the moth don't care if the flame is real'
cos flame and moth got a sweetheart deal
and nothing fuels a good flirtation
like need and anger and desperation

Yesterday was spent battling the invisible Macintosh gremlins (think computers rather than raincoats...), which I eventually overcame, just not quite sure how. So I felt the need to do something more creative today, some sound desgn for some songs I've been working on. I've been downsizing and streamlining, getting rid of the chaff, concentrating only on what is essential to get the job done. As such I've been getting ever more familiar with my "Clavia Nord Lead 2" (it's a synthesizer. Yes, you're right, I am starting to look a bit geeky aren't I). Many a happy hour has been spent cross-modulating oscillators and rattling speakers with her resonance knob. We've been making some weirdly gorgeous sounds together, in a gorgeously weird style. It's good to be back doing something creative like this, feel a bit more human for it.

Time for a candlelit bubblebath.

A bientot.
