WEATHER!!!!!!!! Just checking my morning e:mail. Sunny. Hear a sound from my window. It's a blizzard. 20mins later a nice white carpet has descended on Jazzgo. It's just stopped. Shame. Now there's loose snow swirling off the roof of the industrial units next door like sand across the surface of St. Andrews beach. Lovely.
Been trying to keep up with the debate that Jenny and Jonny Baker, and Maggi Dawn seem to have kicked off about the role of women in the church, particularly 'emerging' church (why is it I'm getting more and more skeptical of all these titles?). Got to admit that sometimes I despair about the possibility of a mature, serious, adult, grown-up debate ever seeping into the wider church. Why is it so difficult for many christians to suspend their pre-judgements and disbelief? More seriously, are there things in the very structure of the Western christian tradition (which, to a large degree, forms how we are christians today) that inhibits self-critique, healthy debate, and, let's face it, healthy relationships with the opposite sex? (Actually I know there are, I'm just raising the question here). Why is it ok for an attractive 20 something woman (with a Colgate smile and perfect complexion) to appear on Alpha advertisements on busses and billboards all over town, yet not have any position of genuine responsibility in the church?
