Been reading 'Nots' by Mark C. Taylor (a well known postmodern theologian - ok then, well known in postmodern theology circles!). It's great! Not totally sure I agree with everything he's about (not sure I understand everything he's about) but really appreciate the way he writes, brings a whole different perspective to what it means to do theology. The chapter on Madonna (the singer) and how her body becomes a sacramental site in some of her videos (Like a Prayer era) and concerts is great. Subject matter also stretches from art, architecture, the immune system and disease, the holocaust, and his daughters bedroom wall. Some of the chapters are a bit demanding (don't say I didn't warn you), but hey, that's postmodernism for you. Anyway, Taylor makes direct links between Madonna's 'religious' position and the philosophy/theology of Nietzsche. Here's a small quote:

One of the names Madonna bares is the Antichrist. As Nietzsche and before him Blake realised, not only Satan but the earthly Jesus can be viewed as the Antichrist. According to the non-foundational principles of Nietzsche's gay wisdom, the Antichrist negates negation by overturning Christianity's overturning of Christ's original vision.

Is that making sense???
