...rocks big stylee. Even if only70% of it is right then Bush, Cheney and a whole load of other people should be serving a life-sentence for war crimes. Anyway, enough ranting.
I did a census of the half-read books lying around the flat yesterday and have come to the conclusion that I need to focus more. Having 11 started-but-on-hold books is not good for ones system of mental hygiene. Shall put my house in order. Having said that though I did buy 'After' (can't remember who it's by) yesterday and read it for the 2 hrs and 40 minutes. Yes, I was a full 2 hrs and 40 minutes early for Farenheit 9/11. Make mental note to find a website on time-management skills. Anyway, I think 'After' is going to be darkly erotic. Perhaps. But maybe the first 2hrs 40mins is misleading.
'Last of The Just' by Andre Schwarz-Bart is also being consumed at a great rate at the moment. If you have even the slightest interest in Judaism, religious intolerance, religious violence, Jewish / Christian relations, or Jewish / Christian history then you could do a lot lot worse than read this. I know what you're thinking, 'But Dave, it's a novel, it's not...like...REAL history'. You are of course right. Narrative is vital for understanding history (see, for example, Hayden White's 'The Importance of Narrativity in the Representation of Reality'), therefore novels are far more historically accurate than history books.....in some sense. I know that's oversimplified, but this is a blog, not a dissertation. And it's my blog. So indulge me. Then say thank you and smile nicely.
Struck a deal with a fellow student to swap some Nick Cave CD's for some Tom Waits. Never really discovered Tom Waits yet. Always sounded interesting, but our paths never seemed to cross. Looking forward to it. Shall let you know.
