Artistic tension and a bit of sex...

How to be a creative in a radically overdetermined, rampantly capitalist world. I guess it's one of the most common dilemmas of modern life. How to put food on the table without selling your soul. Any answers? Nope. Any hope? A little...try here:

I know it's old and you've all seen it before but I realised I'd never linked to this:

Now for the sex. Here ( http://uk.news.yahoo.com/041222/325/f916x.html ) there's a story about some Indian teenager who videod (with his mobile phone) his girlfriend giving him oral sex. The footage ended up on the Indian version of ebay. Apparently this has caused a massive stir. What I find really sad is that *all* of the "adults" quoted in the story seem to have a far more unhealthy attitude towards sex than the 2 young people. I just couldn't help laughing at this quote: "We have been a very closed society and although sex has been around, it was always under the carpet so far." Hilarious! Surely a duvet would be more comfortable? The "although sex has been around" bit was brilliant! Of course sex is "around", there are people "around", we are sexual beings, people = sex. Anyway, talking about sex using exactly the same languguage that's used to talk about mainlining heroin does not seem to be to be too healthy. I think it was in an old Mike Riddell article in 3rd way magazine 7 or 8 years ago that he suggested Christians should see it as part of their religious practice to reclaim sexuality and that they should perhaps "go and give themselves to the task". :-) But the church *still* seems to treat sex as an unfortunate appendage to our humanity.

God save us from the "morally concerned" and the humourless.

P.S. Yeah, I know India's a very different culture. 'Nuff said.
