It appears I'm to be on the BBC. Radio that is. World Service that is. Broadcasting to the mainland and the colonies. As listened to by suicidal, vodka fuelled Russian soldiers on the night train to Vladivostock, Goa hippies listening for clues to answer the question that The Police asked in the song 'Born in the 50's' ("would they drop the bomb on us while we made love on the beach?") and globally minded Western Michael Palin eco-tourist types as they clamber around some of the more inaccessible and obscure parts of this floating sphere called 'Earth'. Quite possibly they'll be listening on wind-up radios puchased from the high street electrical retailer of Anytown and stashed away to be listened to when the lack of Tetley tea, Coronation St., and TV coverage of the 3rd test makes travel seem like the ultimate folly. How disappointed I am for them, then, that they have a very, very slim chance of it being my non-descript generic English accent they pick up as it ricochets off some orbiting satellite. If this is you, as you shiver in a sleeping bag on a hard floor next to the road to Mandalay, I would like to apologise. Coverage of the 3rd test will return. By the way, Australia are 152 for 5, 1st innings. Come on Freddy!
