Technology and stuff...

I'm interested in technology, not just for it's own sake but for the way it changes how we interact with it and each other and how it manages to recalibrate our systems of values. I doubt if any of you good honest people would walk into a computer store and nick a nice set of speakers or a printer, etc. Mainly 'cos you'd get jumped on by a fat sweaty security guard who failed his GCSE's. Even if this wasn't the case I suspect you wouldn't do it because (I'll assume) you have a conscience. But what if you could take an iPod into PCWorld plug it in and copy thousands of pounds worth of software from a computer in a few seconds and walk out? Would that make you feel guilty? Probably a little, but I'm guessing not half as much as walking off with a stash load of Kylie Minogue mouse mats. Why? Well, because we seem to judge the seriousness of theft on the physicality of the thing, and a hard-drive full of 0's & 1's just doesn't feel like a physical thing. The same is true of MP3's, they just don't feel like they are of any monetary value because there is nothing to physicallyfeel, so why pay for them? Not sure what my point is, or if there is one. Just find it interesting how technology changes the way we interact with the world and each other.
