Well well.
I knew that Mom's visit would go quick and it did. It was marvellous to finally have her stay here and see a bit more of Walsall while she spent time with us. We had a lovely time and since she'd got a friend to visit, didn't have to catch the train to Bangor to meet Dad and co. Mom drove up and we spent the night in a YHA hostel. Brought back memories, that did... Had a lovely day in Conwy and Llandudno and finally met up with Dad and Guy and I (inc luggage) climbed into an already jampacked Range Rover. Oh goodness! Am I glad it's a large car!
Anglesey is as lovely as I remember it and I was fascinated by how small the fact that it was a 20 minute drive from the middle of the island to the shore made it seem. Truly, it was most odd.
We stayed in a converted mill and on top of the hill by the mill pond and lake there was an old windmill too. We went out on the lake in the little rowing boat and the kayak and the kids loved that and took to it like ducks to water ;). Brill!
A highlight of the 1st day there was a walk (loooooong walk) to get bread and milk from a Spar that was 1 and half then 2 miles away but probably worked out to be about 3 miles away.... We met this guy by the side of the road next to a hawk. I thought it must've been hurt. I mean how else do you manage to crouch down next to a hawk without it flying off!! And the guy says: "No, I'm feeding him." And get the hawk to hop onto his hawking glove and stands up. We chat a bit and he offers us a lift to the Spar appologising for the state of the car (think the above bird gets free run of it and poos where it fancies...) and off we go. I sat in the front, as close as I've ever been to a bird of prey. Beautiful little hawk. I think he called it a goss hawk (same family as sparrow hawk!) and it was learning to hunt crows.
Finally, Harriers! We were right close to a RAF base and Harriers, Hawks, Tornadoes, whatever they're all called, you name it, they flew overhead at top top speeds! :) Needless to say. Happy mouse!
I've had a great time with flying things haven't I?
