I wrote a great long rant the other day about the state of the world and then AOL crashed so it didn't save it. Probably a great relief to cyberspace in general! Much happier today, it's almost the best bit of the summer hols. My favourite moment is the one about five minutes after the bell goes on the last day of term. All is suddenly quiet, the kids have gone, the reality of it being over is just sinking in and it is the furthest point from the start of the next school year. I know those of you who don't teach often think we have an easy ride with these long holidays, but the day by day is so busy and constantly demanding that we need this chance to stop and just be normal people again.
Had lots of people to tea at the vicarage for a certain vicar's birthday. Hope you meet your deadlines, Dave! It was lovely to catch up with lots of people, especially a former pupil of mine who, despite a screwed up life has turned into a lovely person with lots of talents. People like her remind me why I became a teacher.
I'm very excited about my holiday. I'm off to Ireland in about 30 hours with my Auntie Kate. We're going to Ennis to try to track down some of the family. We did Wales a couple of years back and found my great great grandparents grave in a churchyard just outside Chepstow. That's my dad's mum's mum's family. This time we're after my dad's dad's dad's family. Haven't had much luck via the internet, so hopefully we'll be able to do better once we're there. We're also going to Kilkenny to where my A Kate was a novice for three years. I expect we'll manage a drop of Guinness, too, while we're there. I'm not a beer drinker (or whatever specific category it falls into), but I feel it will be necessary!!
Probably time to stop ranting for tonight.....
