Obscene...

Is it just me that gets a little bit angry when I hear stuff on the news like Victoria Beckham spent £5000 on orchids to decorate a hotel room she was staying in briefly? The first question that comes to mind for me is how many children in Africa that would immunise. I'm not saying that I live a selfless life and have sold everything I have and given it to the poor. And logical me counteracted emotive me's first question with wondering if they already give lots of money to charity. It just seems horribly obscene. I can't even watch cribs any more because seeing 14 year old rap stars with 10 sports car in the garage winds me up too much.

Something else I've been pondering is the abortion stuff that's being debated in Parliament at the moment. In case you'd missed it, a labour MP who is a Christian presented what I think is called a 'ten minute bill' asking for the upper limit for abortion to be reduced from 24 to 21 weeks. She was on the Heaven and Earth show on Sunday and was arguing for proper medical reasons, not just from a religious perspective. She is suggesting that doctors who have specialised in foetal development have found the foetus to be 'sentient' at 21 weeks. It's not the first time I have heard this argument that a foetus shows distress during an abortion.

On the other hand another Labour MP has disagreed strongly and talked about the rights of women and how making the choice to have an abortion is not done lightly, etc., etc.

During the same week friends had their baby at 25 weeks. Jake weighed in at 1 1/2lb and everything that could be done to help him was. Sadly, Jake didn't make it and died last weekend.

Being born at 24 weeks gives a baby at least a 50/50 chance of survival. Some babies born at 22 weeks survive, too. If someone walked in to a hospital and injected one of these tiny little creatures with poison and killed it there would be public outcry and this person would be deemed a child murderer and yet being in the womb seems to take away the right to be protected.

Sorry to be heavy, but I wondered if anyone else had any thoughts on this one. BTW if you are someone who prays, please send a couple up for our friends.
