The last service of the choir year was in our little sister church - the 'miner's church', over the bridge and round the one-in-three hairpin bend. Their choir stalls only hold nine singers so, as there were 20 of us, the sopranos and altos had to sit in the front of the congregation. It was strange to sing facing the other way for once. The service was a benefice one; about 50 people turned up so we raised the rafters of the little church, singing along to the wheezy little organ which rose to the task admirably under the circumstances. It was a straightforward evensong, psalm and canticles to Anglican chant, Ferial responses and 'Here O my Lord' (Whitlock) as the anthem. Being a small country parish, we were treated to several varieties of delicious homemade biscuits with our coffee. This sort of joint service will apparently be taking place about four times a year - after the lovely welcome and yummy biscuits the choir are entirely happy with this arrangement. :)
