The return

How lovely to be back after a whole month's rest. There were worried looks from the wardrobe mistress as the younger choir members, now much taller, appeared to have let their robes shrink in the wash. We returned to the much-loved 'Thorne' setting for the Eucharist and a rather elongated 'A New Commandment' by Shepherd for the Anthem. The arrangement involved singing the words three times: S, SATB a capella, SATB accompanied. If the congregation hadn't grasped the meaning by the third time, either they weren't listening or our diction was terrible!

A quiet Evensong, with 'If ye love me' by Tallis sung a capella. There was only a minor hiccup from a late soprano entry, from which they recovered well. We like to welcome the choirmaster back with the threat of a few grey hairs.....
