...the day we went to Exeter.

But, first things first, at the morning Eucharist, we sang, 'God be in my Head' by Walford Davies. Then, with packed lunches in tow, we got on the coach to the cathedral. It has been our habit to sing Evensong on the second Sunday in September, before the cathedral choir return from their summer break. We enjoyed singing the Sweeney responses, Brewer's Mag and Nunc and Campbell's joyful 'Praise to God in the Highest'. I thought it was rather brave of the choirmaster to ask the sopranos to sing top C at the cathedral, but they rose to the occasion rather well. The family in the congregation (treble, alto and tenor) who were considering joining the choir didn't get put off, anyway, and turned up at the following choirpractice just as enthusiastic.

On the third Sunday of the month (for I am lazy and haven't updated my blog) we had our Patronal Festival and Confirmation. Yet again, one of the junior choristers was confirmed - we are proving to be a regular supply. During the administration, we sang the Iona anthem, 'Bread is blessed and broken' - making an amazing recovery after the shock of the Bishop breaking into Merbecke for the Sursum Corda (something which is rarely heard in our church - fortunately enough choristers knew it off by heart to sound almost convincing.....)

Evensong saw a repeat of the cathedral repertoire - either we were lazy or the congregation was not the same. Or probably both. Another visitor asked to join the choir - this time as a much-needed soprano, so we are obviously not scaring the punters too much.
