Low Sunday

Low numbers in the soprano line led to a very quiet sound in the anthem, 'Deep Peace' (Rutter). As usual, the choir master reminded us about 'balance' leading to the basses having to sing with the deepest peace of all.

There was no evensong this week, but I didn't mind at all as it gave me the excuse to go to the cathedral for a heavenly performance by 'The Sixteen' of music from the Sistine Chapel. The choir split in two for several of the items, including the Allegri Miserere, with the smaller of the two choruses singing from much further back - leading to a detached, ethereal sound. Mmmm-mmmm!
