Most people being back from their holidays, the choir stalls were full this week and the music ran out. It's not easy sharing to sing an anthem or psalm, especially when the other person moves the music as they sing. Fortunately, by the time of the service, the problem had been resolved and we were able to sing 'Hide not thou thy face' (Farrant) without any significant wobbles.
A slightly smaller choir (especially in the soprano department) turned up for Evensong. 'God be in my head' (Rutter) was therefore sung very quietly, hopefully not sounding as if we had departed completely! The gentle atmosphere continued with a charming voluntary - 'Toccata in F' (Buxtehude), sending us out into the rain with a surprising sense of peace.
